About
Melissa Kilbride
AKA: MGal, Mainegal
I was born and raised in Maine. After graduating from UMaine, I relocated to the Metro Detroit area in the summer of 2001. Other than my interview, I had never been to the area or even given it a passing thought. Over the years, I’ve come to enjoy living in and exploring the area. Detroit turned out to be different than I expected.
I started blogging to share my adventures with my family and friends. They had all been concerned about my safety when I moved and I wanted them to know that Detroit was nothing like the news. They too have come to enjoy what the city offers. My parents happily spend long weekends visiting me, although I think they come for Eastern Market and King’s Books.
Although I enjoy life in Detroit, I do miss the mountains, ocean and forests of Maine and all of New England. Maybe one day, life will lead me back east.
In the past few years, I have begun enjoying photography. Whether I am using a digital DSLR or one of the many old film cameras, I am fascinated by the world I capture on film. All photography is documentary to me - it is documenting the life I live and see.
One note of caution, periodically, I do something that makes my archives unavailable. I do have the files for 2004 - 2006, however, I don’t know how to get them back up. One day, I might.
Update in 2008:
1. I’ll probably never bring the archives back online.
2. I have limited access to the internet (deliberate) which means I don’t post often
3. I am depressed that upon my marriage in October, I’ll have to move out of the city to his house in the ‘burbs… but he owns his and I rent mine. Anyone want a lovely bungalow in the ‘burbs?
